RED WOLF AUDIO FAQS
Below are some of our most commonly asked questions – reach out if you don’t see your question.
Q: Do I need music for my project?
A: Most media uses music. How much, and how big the music is involved really depends on what your story is about. Music can add emotion, sentimentality, reference, location, era, transitions, and overall storytelling above and beyond the visual information and dialogue. Watch any movie without music, and you will get a big shock! Music is the last thing that many filmmakers deal with but can be 50% of the audience’s experience.
Q: How many revisions should I expect?
A: The short answer is: As many as it takes to create a composition that matches your vision for your project.
My role is to take what you hear in your mind and translate it into something you can share with your project’s audience. Sometimes that can take some work, but through revisions and communication, we will reach a sound that fully expresses your vision.
Q: How do I communicate while we work together?
A: For communication that is less time-sensitive, email is my preferred method of communication. For more time-sensitive communication, and for video calls, I use Discord, Google Hangouts, Zoom, or Teams. For sharing drafts, I use Google Drive or Dropbox. If you have a preferred method for communicating, please let me know and we can work something out.
Q: What are the steps to working with Red Wolf Audio?
A:To get started on a project, you can email me at contact@redwolfaudio.com or use the contact form at https://redwolfaudio.com/learn-connect/ .
Once we connect, we’ll kick off the project with an initial meeting to discuss technical and artistic requirements, including genre, length, tone, and instrumentation, as well as delivery timeframe. If you have example pieces of music in the form of YouTube links or simply an artist and title, this meeting would be a great place to provide that information. After I gather some basic information, I’ll put together an estimate for the commission.
Once the commission begins, I will start providing drafts to listen to. I like to keep my clients as engaged as possible during the writing process, using whatever communication method works best for them. I try to provide drafts as quickly as possible, to keep creative momentum. Once the composition is complete, I will do the same with mixing and master of the track, to ensure the tone the client is looking for is completely captured.
Q: I work better in person, can you meet with me?
A: Yes, I am available to meet “virtually” via Discord, Google Hangouts, Zoom, Teams, or the video conferencing system of your choice. I am set up to be able to creative sessions via these platforms as well, including spotting sessions and live composition.
Q: What is your return policy?
A: While I do not have a return policy, you are free to cancel the commission at any time during the process, prior to the transfer of the license. Your deposit, equal to half the fee agreed upon during the planning meeting(s), is non-refundable. If you choose to cancel, you will no longer receive a commercial license for the work, but are free to keep all drafts created during the commission for your personal use.
Q: What do you charge for original music?
A: Commission costs can vary, however my typical commission rate range is $100-$500 per audio minute, rounded to the nearest quarter-minute. You would receive an original composition, fully mixed and mastered as well as a commercial license to use the composition in your work. I absolutely consult with clients before deciding on costs. Email me and let’s talk!
Again, depending on requirements, such as a high number of individual instrumental tracks, a paper score, or compositional complexity, the cost can vary. These details can be worked out during commission planning.
A deposit of half the commission fee is due prior to starting work on the commission piece. The other half, adjusted to match the actual length of the delivered work, is due prior to receiving the commercial license.
Q: I love new music and I want to commission a piece, but I’m afraid I can’t afford it. Do you have any advice?
A: It might not be as difficult or expensive as you might think to commission of piece of music for your project. I’m always happy to discuss options for reducing costs to meet your project’s budget. Please don’t hesitate to reach out; an original piece of music for your project might be a lot more affordable than you think!
Q: Do you have already created music pieces I can choose from for less?
A: At this time, unfortunately, no. Check back often, however, as this is on the roadmap for the near future!
